Job Description:
The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard is the world's leading biomedical research institute dedicated to the bold mission of using the full power of genomics to transform the understanding and treatment of disease. We seek to describe all of the molecular components of life and their connections; discover the molecular basis of major human diseases; develop effective new approaches to diagnostics and therapeutics; and disseminate discoveries, tools, methods, and data openly to the entire scientific community.

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic scientist to spearhead a collaborative effort between the Sellers and Getz labs at Broad Institute and lab of Eric Fischer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in collaboration with the Cancer Cell Line Factory and Cancer Dependency Map programs. The overarching goal will be to comprehensively characterize the cell surface proteome of cancer and normal cell models to identify the next generation of cell surface targets for large molecules and cell therapies. Our initial efforts focus on a subset of key lineages with an opportunity to scale the platform through sourcing additional grant funding and external partnerships. The ideal candidate will be a self starter with a deep interest in target discovery, platform development, and an unending scientific curiosity. The candidate will have a chance to develop leadership skills in this position which will report directly to Senior Group Leaders.

Qualified candidates should have:
  • A Ph.D. in a biological science such as cell biology, biochemistry, cancer biology, or related field and a completed or soon to be completed postdoctoral fellowship in a similar field.
  • 2+ years of experience either as a Postdoc or 2+ years in industry.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience in serving as a biological technical developing, managing, and mentoring junior scientists is a plus.
  • Candidates with a Ph.D. in a related field and no prior experience may be considered at different levels.

Required Skills:
  • Self-motivated and curious, with the ability to lead scientific research effectively.
  • Demonstrated creativity in problem-solving.
  • Track record of independently delivering scientific results.
  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques including flow cytometry, immunofluorescence staining, Western blotting, ELISA, image analysis etc.
  • Impeccable and efficient experimental design, assay development, and execution.
  • Strong commitment to "leading from the bench".
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, perform detailed data analysis and accurate record keeping to support the target nomination analysis.
  • Experience with protein-proximal labeling techniques for mass spectrometry proteomics research is a plus.
  • Experience in target validation research (e.g., mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence staining, western blotting, ELISA, image analysis, etc.) is a plus.
  • Experience in following and improving assay protocols is preferred.
  • Experience in managing collaborations.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct protein-proximal labeling sample preparation to systematically characterize the cell surface proteome in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Act as the lead scientist and technical guru for cell surface profiling efforts, driving improvements in proteomics analysis and outcomes.
  • Validate surface target expression using techniques such as flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, western blotting, and other relevant assays in partnership with Research Associates.
  • Manage and mentor Research Associates.
  • Collaborate closely with the Cancer Dependency Map, Cancer Cell Line Factory, Cancer Genomics, and Cancer Data Sciences groups to advance research initiatives.
  • Coordinate with cancer genomics core staff to integrate data and insights effectively.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for platform expansion and innovation.
  • Collaborate on antibody and other large molecule discovery and validation efforts, as needed.
  • Participate in joint research meetings and presentations to collaborators and funders.
